The Zookeeper's Wife is a very well written biography of a falimy that operated the Warsaw Zoo when Germany attacked Poland, starting World War II.
The zookeeper's wife risked her life trying to help Jews escape the Nazis. Thei is a very good insight into the personal heroism and personal jhardships suffered by people during the war.
