When Lucy visits Italy with her prim and proper cousin Charlotte, she is on the verge of an experience that will throw her neatly ordered life off balance. Back in England, she finds that her relationships with her family, with the unconventional Emersons and with her supercilious fiance pull her between the social and sexual properties od her upbringing anf the and the spontaneous promptings of her heart.

Safely arrived, thank you!
An old favourite of mine...
"One doesn't come to Italy for niceness," was the retort; "one comes for life."
Lovely, and I will pass on to cat207 soon...

Going to ChiBoiler in tomorrow's mail. Happy reading. X

Thanks, cat207 - looks like we swapped books today! This just arrived in the mail.

Really liked this book. A light hearted read that was an unusual find amongst the 53 - 1001 books that I have now completed.
Thanks for hosting this ray, cat 207! I will pass it on to angela861 the next time I see her!

I received this while on vacation w/ ChiBoiler. I have 2 other rings/rays in front of this but have no fear... I'm a fast reader!

I really enjoyed this book. It was light and a fast read. It was such a nice surprise. I think I'll rent the movie.
I've just realized that I'm the last person on the list. I have offered to a fellow BC member who is working her way through the 1001 Books list. If she has read it, I will offer it as a bookray.

Got this in the mail over the weekend! Can't wait to read it. Thanks angela861!

I finished this book the day before yesterday. I enjoyed it. I thought it was interesting how the entire book was dialogue, but you still can tell exactly what is going on. It's a light, easy read.
PMed jinnayah on the 25th for her address, waiting to hear back from her so I can send the book on its way!

On its way to Jinnayah via Media Mail!

Arrived today through the mail. I see the prior recipient was also in Boston -- convenient! Looking forward to it.

Oh, what a darling book! I loved it. I am proud to say the last scene reminds me of me and my husband :-)
I loved the appendix, as well. That Forster could so easily imagine where his characters were in his society! It shows how well he situated them initially.
Will PM kiyoitsukikage and send the book on. Apologies for the falling-out section.

I tried, but I really couldn't bring myself to continue reading this book, after about 40 pages I gave up. I could barely discern the characters and I had no idea what was going on o__O Clearly not for me. ;) PMed the next person.

Journal Entry 23 by

Hello everyone, the book arrived here in Paris yesterday! I've two other rings here, we'll see how fast it goes, but since it doesn't seem there're other readers after me for the time being, I won't stress too much, if that's all right with you.

Even while I have been dreading the book would fall completely apart when reading it, I forced myself to do so. It's not in great shape, but I managed to not make it any worse.
When it comes to the content, I've rather mixed feelings. While the story's outline is nice, I haven't appreciated the description of the characters and especially the sudden changes in some of them. It would be as if someone has entirely replaced a character for another and not as if they had changed. As much as the story could have been nice, this aspect just wasn't convincing at all.

The book awaited me after I came back from a weekend trip. Thanks for sending it to me Bluemchenblatt.

I had listened to the audio-book some time ago but enjoyed the actual book better. I am actually glad that I am not a woman of the 19th century.

I released the book at Bhubaneshwar airport in one of the newspaper stands. I hope that an interested person finds the book.
