Speaker For The Dead

The second book in the Ender series, before it was swallowed by the monster of suckitude. This one tells the story of humanity encountering a new alien species, and how they set up an elaborate system to avoid corrupting them. The colony itself is very dysfunctional, but naturally Ender comes in, saves everybody, and explains everything.
I liked this book quite a bit when I read it after Ender's Game, but it loses its appeal after a few readings. It's like a bad horror film: if only the main characters had read some science fiction, they would have figured out everything immediately without needing the magic powers of Ender.
