Beloved

Purchased at the Children's Hospital paperback sale, October 20, 2007. Cover not exactly as shown.
I don’t particularly like books that are written in an intentionally confusing style, and I'm also not a great fan of magical realism. So, this book isn't going to take a place among my favourites. There was a good story in here somewhere about a former slave and her life but in addition to being hard to follow it was also rather depressing. I much preferred The Bluest Eye and yet I can see why another reader might love this book.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Taking this to the monthly Winnipeg Bookcrossing meet-up at The Park Theatre Cafe. If it doesn't get taken home by one of our members, it'll be left on the shelf of the OBCZ (Official Book Crossing Zone).
Welcome to Bookcrossing! I hope you'll enjoy this book and explore the Bookcrossing site. It's loads of fun, as you can track your released books in their travels, possibly all over the world! Please let us know that you've found the book, what you thought of it and if possible, where you might re-release it when you're done so it can continue its journey. You may remain anonymous, but if you choose to join up I hope you will consider using me, mrsgaskell, as the one who referred you.

I may have tried to read this one already, I don't recall. I may give it a chance before wild releasing it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The magical realism to me took a backseat to the stories of enslaved people. I won’t forget this book anytime soon.
