Miss Julia Garnet, prompted by the death of a friend, goes to live in an out-of-way corner of Venice. Here she meets with people and experiences which fractue her known world: Nicco, a beautiful Italian oy, carlo, an art dealer and the enigmatic English twins engaged in restoring the Chapel-of-the-Plague.

Releasing into BabyFlyLadys Boomerang Bookbox

Journal Entry 3 by YowlYY on Sunday, July 20, 2008
I cannot believe I did not journal this when I took it out of the bookbox! Shame on me! :(

I tried to listen to it, but after Disk 2 I got bored and so it is either returning to the bookbox (which, in the meantime, is back with me) or passed on to another audiobook lover...

Salley Vickers alternates the story of Miss Garnet and the people she meets in Venice with a re-telling in vernacular English of Tobias's ancient odyssey. And as the city with its canals casts a spell over Julia's heart, this biblical romance frees her spirit - her soul - from a dormancy that has lasted her entire life. Unfortunately I found it all a little whimsical and I couldn't really relate to the Tobit / Tobias story. Also I found the twins somewhat hard to believe in and the story of Monsignor’s children was irrelevant. Maybe I missed it but could not detect any deep message.

I had to play the first CD a few times to see if I had missed the gist of the story before moving on to the next CD . Nope I hadn't. This switching from one to another would probably have been better reading for me. Still one more book considered read :-)

A gentle tale about a woman finally discovering herself. Interwoven with Julia's time in Venice is the story of the Book of Tobit from the Apocrypha. This biblical story features the Archangel Raphael with whom Julia becomes so fascinated with. Unravelling this tale causes Julia to question her own life & she finds that nothing is as quite as it seems.

Passed the time pleasantly enough though to be honest I did find my attention wandering at times.

To the finder:-
Welcome to bookcrossing -you have found a travelling book. Please make a journal entry now to say where you found the book in case it has been moved. Then, when you have read it, please come back and make a further entry saying whether or not you enjoyed the book and why. It is now yours to do as you like with it, pass it to a friend or just leave it somewhere different for someone else to find and help it with its' journey. Of course if you can't bear to part with it at the moment then keep it, but please let me know that you have found it. If you join bookcrossing, which is free and spam-free, you can follow the book on its' travels as you will get an email each time it changes hands, but if you prefer to remain anonymous, that's fine too. Please also say what you intend to do with the book next. Thanks for coming onto the site to let me know you have found the book.

I already have books travelling in many countries around the world-a list can be found on my bookcrossing profile.

When re-releasing this book please be aware that airports are not a good place to leave books unless they have a specific book exchange shelf or area, due to security problems, so they may well just be disposed of. Also charity shops may well discard books that have been labelled in any way and they mostly chose only the books in the very best condition
to place on their shelves and discard the rest-so another bad release option.
