From the back cover:
"When young, good-natured Dorinda Brown takes a position as personal secretary to Mrs. Linnet Oakley in Surrey, she cannot know the twisted road she is about to travel. Her childhood friend and confidant, Justin Leigh, becomes concerned for her well-being as soon as he learns of the strange coincidences connected to her arrival at Mill House. First she discovers a photograph of her missing Uncle Glen in the nursery -- he had run off with all her Aunt Mary's money years earlier. Then, after returning the photograph to her employer, she is framed for shoplifting merchandise in a London department store, a charge which would have stuck to her if it were not for the providential intervention of Miss Silver, who happened to be shopping at the adjacent counter. Ultimately it will be Miss Silver who helps to unravel the Wicked Uncle’s devastating schemes of blackmail -- and his own murder."

I picked this book out of a box of mysteries. I had a great time reading it -- I love the genre of murder in a little town in England a few decades ago.
