I'm placing this book on reserve for VeganMedusa. I'll send it on to her as a RABCK as soon as I have finished it. I noticed it on her wishlist while thanking her for a Gift Giving package she sent to my family.

I had listened to the audiobook of this story a few years ago, and I really enjoyed it. Don't know why, but I always like to read the book even if I have listened to it. I certainly was not disappointed with this one!! What a wonderful book. I just loved it, even more. The characters are so well developed and the story is so complicated. It was a fantastic read!!!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, veganmedusa. It is heading off to you tomorrow!!

Thank you so much! It is a big book, isn't it - so extra thanks to you. Plus of course, the weight of the crocodile. :)
Nice idea to include a map - you really are in the middle of nowhere, aren't you? Greetings from over the ditch. :)

Wow, I'm on such a high after finishing this book. I loved every minute of it. The first volume with the delicious Jane Austen-style commentary and introductions of all the characters; the second volume with great battles and heartbreaking storylines - the end of this part of the book was such a shock, I was wild that the author could dare to do something so terrible!; then the third volume things got more and more suspenseful and exciting. The last 100 pages or so - I couldn't get through them fast enough to find out how it all came together in the end.
I want to read everything this author ever writes! And we'll definitely be buying a copy of it to keep - it's one that could easily be re-read (quite Lord of the Rings-like).
Thank you so much, nikkilovesbooks, for this wonderful treat.
This is going now to zosime, who chose it in a bookobsessed.com swap (and I think the crocodile will go too). :)

Thanks! With all the comments about this book during the swap, I was worried it would be too heavy to lift! It is a thick book, but as the sort of nutter who used to wear army surplus trousers to class in college so I could fit 800+ page fantasy novels in the pockets, I'm sure I can handle it.

I loved loved loved this book! The author built such a wonderful world. As soon as I finished it, I had to read The Ladies of Grace Adieu, which did not disappoint. One of my favorite stories in that collection is set in Neil Gaiman's village of Wall, which fits perfectly into the rest of Susanna Clarke's universe.

My boyfriend is now slowly making his way through the book - he's not much of a book reader, but he's thoroughly enjoying it. When he finishes up I'll see if I can find a new home for it.
