Naked women. With pictures!
I enjoyed the film of Calendar Girls, and the chance to read one of the real women's first hand accounts is intriguing. Picked up at the Melbourne 2007 BookCrossing Convention - I wouldn't have bought this book, but seeing it on the free table I thought I'd give it a go.
This was a very real account of the traumas undergone by the women of Rylstone. First the death of a wonderful man from cancer, then the narrator's marital breakdown. The calendar starts as an incredibly positive thing but becomes something far greater, taking over people's lives and sending Tricia Stewart around the world. She's painfully honest about the arguments, issues arising between the calendar ladies and the difficulties of managing the media, especially when they turn hostile. Still, I appreciated the chance to read it.
