Very kindly sent to me by canongatebooks. Incredibly readable but also magical and haunting although I must say I wasn't at all convinced by the ending. Reading this book did rather make me want to visit Mexico City as soon as possible as the descriptions of the streets, the food, etc. were fascinating I particularly liked the character of Sister Agata and life at the orphanage where I found the story of Angelica almost unbearably poignant, in fact, it reduced me to tears at some points. I am sending this on to Mahinaarangi in New Zealand and hope she enjoys it as much as I did :).

I loved this book and didn't want to finish it. I thought it was beautifully written and exquisitely sad.

A good example of magic realism. The juxtaposition of the relatively innocent heroine with tales of female murderers was an effective technique. Not up to the standard of Garcia Marquez but a good read.
Controlled release from a friend. Found the book quite interesting, odd in some parts. Interesting facts about female murderers.
Controlled release. Looking forward to reading it.
