I BOUGHT THIS BOOK AT WH SMITH AT LIVERPOOL STREET STATION. I saw a girl reading this on the Tube and thought - it looks interesting. Another Gothic story but no vampires in this, so far as I am aware. I think this was originally written in Hungarian.

This novel was beautifully written and very atmospheric... set in Austria and Hungary during the late 19th century through to WWII, it was refreshing to read a novel set in Eastern Europe. It is the story of a betrayal between two close friends and the woman who came between them. It is a not a light read but it is certainly a provocative one. A book for fans of literary fiction.

Oooo, the cover art is much more interesting on this UK edition. Been wanting to read this for a while now. Thank you LeighBCD! I will post again when I've read it.

I don't recall if I finished reading this book, but I'm cleaning out bookshelves and Coffee Buddha seems like a good fit for this book.
