A beautifully written novel about a tough subject: the aftermath of a horrible bus accident that kills fourteen children in New York state. The story revolves around the intersection lives of four people: a survivor, the driver, a parent, and a lawyer. Banks captures the essence of people and places with gorgeous prose and true compassion.

This is the book that inspired one of my favorite movies. I read it a few years ago.
