I really liked this book. Somehow, it reminds me of Mengele Zoo by Gert Nygårdshaug.

Arrived safely a few days ago, thank you very much for sending and thank's for the lovely card! I certainly will enjoy the book :-)

I've read this already in German, It's Allende's first try at a novel for young readers, she later wrote a second and third part of the fantastic adventures of the teenagers Alex and Nadia in the Amazon rainforest.
The children are abducted by mysterious People of the Mist who live in the Eye of the World, and they are welcomed into the village. Alex, being 15, undergoes a rite of passage and meets a jaguar, his totem animal. They see magical, ancient creatures, kind of giant sloths who preserve the knowledge of the tribe and they discover the legendary El Dorado.
It's an engaging read. Eventually it's all about the increasing endangerment for indigenous people and rainforests. Can the children protect the secret tribe from greedy exploit. e.g. through mining companies and other white predators?
I wonder why this story wasn't yet made into a movie or at least into a computer game.
