I read This Rock as part of my Appalachian literature course at Cornell. The author, Robert Morgan is also a professor of creative writing here, and he came in to talk to us about it. He is an amazing man who you could listen to tell stories all day. Muir is loosely based on his father, who also liked to work in the rain and wanted to be a preacher.
