An acquaintance I was chatting to in the pub told me, at length, how much he loves this book. He often gives copies to friends and family, and enthused about its many charms. So, when I spotted it for £1 a week later I couldn't resist.

This is a charming children's book. This paperback edition includes the author's illustrations (in black and white, which is a pity) which are lovely.

The only problem is, I'm a bit old to be charmed by children's books. Despite the blurb on the back ("a classic tale of equal appeal to children and adults") this would be best enjoyed by a child. It definitely needs to be BookCrossed as it will be wasted on my shelf. There wasn't any interest in a children's bookray, so I'll check the wishlists...

What a very strange little book. I wonder if a child could really understand what was going on in the story.

I'm attending a christening, so I'll leave it on a pew towards the back of the church.
