sent to a new loving home.
I bought this book for my Mum in Ireland 5 years ago and she loved it very much, but I never got a chance to read it myself, so this is my opportunity!

Nearly 4 years later and I have finally finished this story. The cover is a bit uninspiring so it kept getting rejected for better graphics!
The story of Frank McCourt is a sad, interesting and powerful one. I enjoyed reading about his childhood in Ireland, poverty and all. Working in Social Work I keep seeing people who consider themselves poor because they don't have this year's flat screen TV - I wonder how we went from people having nothing at all considering themselves poor, to people crying poverty because of gadgets and fast food. Perhaps I am becoming jaded.
The book nds with Frank's arrival in America so I am really curious to find out what happened to him then. I'd love to see how the insults and bullying in his childhood have, or have not, affected him as an adult.
I think "Teacher Man" is the follow up but my copy is in storage in Adelaide somewhere.
Not sure what I'll do with this now. I'll figure something out.

I just realised the locations of the book don't reflect at all it's travels - Sydney to Nowra is only 150km at most. But this book actually arrived with me in Adelaide, and I took it to Imanpa in the NT with me. Didn't get around to reading it so it came on our attempted drive around Australia trip along the Nullarbor, and to Esperance, then back to Adelaide and from there to Canberra, Goulburn and finally Nowra with me. Insane. It got a bit wet when the water tank leaked on it but it's perfectly readable.
