Women of the Silk: A Novel
6 journalers for this copy...
I just loved Tsukiyama's story and writing style. I found the descriptions of life in the silk factory to be fascinating, and just loved the story of Pei and the others as they struggled through such a hard way of life.
I am mailing this off to Pell to start a bookring.

Journal Entry 3
Italy on Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Ejoyed reading this so much, one of my favourite subjects, Oriental stories. I kept cooking and fancying chinese food while i was reading it, thats why i have put on so much weight.
Will forward on some time next week.
Posted today from Italy, hope Bilbi enjoys reading it.
Thanks for sending two Asian books !
I'll read them as soon as I can.
I've been in an Asian literature mood lately so THANK YOU again \o/
It's always such a pleasure to read a book like this ! I think my taste for Asian literature can't be stopped !
I'll start the second book (by the same writer) as soon as... tomorrow ;-)
EDIT : \o/ means yeeeeeeeeeeeaaah ! I think a kiss is :*
Received today - thank you very much. I may be a little longer than usual reading this because I have three received at the same time, but I will certainly get this on its way as soon as possible. (By the way, I am intrigued by bilbi's little symbol \o/ - is it a happy person waving their arms, or a continental kiss?)
I really enjoyed this book and once started I could not put it down. Easy writing style with just the right balance of description and action, and some tantalising hints about various aspects of the girls' life style, which (quite properly I felt) respected their privacy. Altogether delightful. I will get this moving again, hopefully next week.
Posted today to PassiontoRead
Received today. Thanks midlifecrisis for mailing. Have a few bookrings ahead but will try to read in a timely fashion and keep traveling.
Just finished today and I really enjoyed the book. It was a fast, easy read mainly because it was so interesting and a good story. It was heartwarming to read about such a meaningful relationship between friends but amazed at how difficult life could be for females and their families in China. Thanks for including me in the bookring. I've already sent a PM to ladilee24 but have not gotten a response. Will try a few more times.
Mailed this book today to ladilee24....finally got to the post office after the holiday madness. Sorry it took so long to mail. Happy reading in 2008!
Just arrived today. Looks very interesting, thanks.
I enjoyed this novel; it was quite different from my other reading so far this year. I loved the relationships between the women, especially Pei and Lin and their enduring bond. A quick read, but a moving one, far outside my own experience yet something that will stay with me.
Trying to contact cocacolacathy to mail the book on, will ship once I get her address.
Never heard from cocacolacathy, so I mailed this back to Bluestocking88 this morning, January 17, 2007.
Home again home again jiggity jog. . .
Thank you everyone for keeping this moving. It is now home safely and it will likely take part in a future bookbox after I reread it.
