I just loved Tsukiyama's story and writing style. I found the descriptions of life in the silk factory to be fascinating, and just loved the story of Pei and the others as they struggled through such a hard way of life.

I am mailing this off to Pell to start a bookring.

Received today - thank you very much. I may be a little longer than usual reading this because I have three received at the same time, but I will certainly get this on its way as soon as possible. (By the way, I am intrigued by bilbi's little symbol \o/ - is it a happy person waving their arms, or a continental kiss?)

I really enjoyed this book and once started I could not put it down. Easy writing style with just the right balance of description and action, and some tantalising hints about various aspects of the girls' life style, which (quite properly I felt) respected their privacy. Altogether delightful. I will get this moving again, hopefully next week.

Just finished today and I really enjoyed the book. It was a fast, easy read mainly because it was so interesting and a good story. It was heartwarming to read about such a meaningful relationship between friends but amazed at how difficult life could be for females and their families in China. Thanks for including me in the bookring. I've already sent a PM to ladilee24 but have not gotten a response. Will try a few more times.

I enjoyed this novel; it was quite different from my other reading so far this year. I loved the relationships between the women, especially Pei and Lin and their enduring bond. A quick read, but a moving one, far outside my own experience yet something that will stay with me.

Trying to contact cocacolacathy to mail the book on, will ship once I get her address.
