This is a the first part of a multivolume novelisation of the history of Islam, which I read after a visit to Granada, Spain, a couple of years ago. I enjoyed the story, and the fact that some of the plot occurred in and around this marvellous city, and its famous Moorish castle, Alhambra. Written from the point of view of the muslims who were expelled from Granada at the time of the Spanish Inquisition, this book definitely gives those of us in the Christian world something to think about. The Spanish Inquisition is not just a Monty Python routine, but really something horrible in our collective pasts. I don''t know if it was the translation or the author''s sometimes academic style, but the prose was rather stiff and this was not an easy read.
