The story shows powerfully the risks and dangers encountered in this extreme environment that has taken many lives as demonstrated by the bodies left by the wayside. It is an action packed story that is hard to put down – I couldn’t stop reading and leave them on the mountain! I would highly recommend this tale of friendship, family and personal strength, particularly to lower secondary boys.

I quite liked this book even though I was not its target audience. This is a story of a boy called Peak who loves to climb (inherited from his parents who were both famous rock climbers). Peak causes a bit of an uproar when he is caught climbing a building. As part of his penalty the court orders him leave the country in the company of his father.
His father, who is a bit of a scammer, has a plan to make money off him by being the youngest person to climb mount everest. What follows is a journey of self discovery for the young man.
I would recommend it for younger readers but even older readers will find some gems of wisdom in it. I quite liked it.
