Registering in a drive to get over 1000 BC registered books.
Powerful account of life in captivity from Beirut hostage Brian Keenan.
Good on the ways he and his fellow prisoner John McCarthy kept each other going, and the nature of their experiences. Found the aggressive, often bryutal joking between the men interesting - I think they were taking out on each other their anger and frustration at their situation and their captors.
I''d had this on my "to be read" shelf for years, and am glad I finally got round to reading it. now someone else can.

Apologies for registering the catch so late. As recompense (sp?) I have put it on the express chair lift to the top of Mount TBR ;o)...... and then fail to write up my thoughts for months!!

I struggled not to give up on this book. I found the first section (before the kidnapping) self indulgent, dull and rambling. I was convinced that this was going to be quite possibly one of the worst books I'd ever read. Then the kidnapping happened and it was like I was reading a different book.

The language changed, the pace changed, even the language chenged. I was absolutely gripped and found myself reading one of the most compelling books ever to have come onto my bookshelf. I was very young when it happened, but still remember the kidnappings of Brian Keenan, John McCarthy & Terry Whaite and while I knew they survived their horrendous ordeals, there was something about this book that made me wonder what would happen to them and desperate to keep reading.

You know you've got a good book when you delibrately slow down reading to make it last that little bit longer ;o)
