The Case of Madeline Smith (Treasury of Victorian Murder)

I've enjoyed many of Geary's offbeat woodcut-style graphic-novel renditions of true crimes, from the Garfield assassination to the Borden murders. The case of Madeleine Smith is one of the classic did-she-or-didn't-she murder cases, with lots of circumstantial evidence against her but plenty of room for doubt... Geary's account sketches the backgrounds of the principal characters and presents the available evidence, with a neutral tone that seems to have some wry subtext here and there; it''s still a fascinating case, and Geary's artwork enhances the story.

Picked up the book in a doctors office in Manchester, NH and started reading it. It was really interesting and didn't take any time at all to finish it. I did take it home and will now be placed for others to read in a doctors office in Concord, NH.
