Mrs. Frisby, a widowed mouse with four small mouse-children, must move her family to their summer home before the farmer plows his fields, but her youngest son lies ill with pneumonia and cannot be moved. She approaches the band of super-intellengent rats who live in the rosebush for assistance, and learns of their secret, which touches her life in a way she never anticipated. This book is the basis for the Don Bluth animated film The Secret of NIMH.
