Most of Bill Bryson''s books deal with his travels, and in a way, this is no exception, in that it deals with his travels through his memories (and more than occasionally through his imagination), back to his childhood in 1950s Des Moines. There''s a strong sense of nostalgia throughout the book, at the loss of so much in the intervening years, but it''s healthily tempered with a realisation that perhaps not all about life back then was as perfect as it seemed to a 10 year old.

As entertaining as Bryson''s books always are.
