The Ballad of Les Darcy

I received this book free when I purchased Beginner's Guide to Winning the Nobel Prize from The Co-Op Bookshop.
Although I did not expect to enjoy reading it as it was about a boxer and a war, WWI to be precise; I found I couldn't put it down. The author has narrated the story of Les Darcy and WWI in the context of a personal story and that of a small part of Australian history.
Since reading this book, I have begun to hunt out others about early Australia.
I particularly want to follow up a famine in Ireland (there was more than one) where the English continued to export corn even though the Irish were in need of food.
Also, the book also has some quotable quotes, including Billy Hughes' response to the president of the USA at the time.
The book is very easy to read, and I think, like me, even if you are not interested in boxing or war stories, the narrative style and personal story makes it a very interesting read.
