This book was remaindered. The blurb:

"London, 1955. Three bodies are found in a London house - but, when the police search for the murder weapon, vital evidence is destroyed. One of the victims is former society beauty Georgina Gresham, prime suspect in the notorious murder of her husband, James, almost thirty years earlier. Beside her lie the bodies of her brother Edmund and housekeeper Ada.

But there is a link with the past. In the 1890s, in a beautiful garden, three children played together. Their lives were secure, their future certain - until the youngest child was found with fatal head injuries ... "

Still more psychopathic killers? *sigh*

Actually, this is an excellent book, notwithstanding I bought it from a remainders table. The story is told by three different people; Georgina, her brother Edmund and their housekeeper Ada and it covers a period of time from when Georgina was six years old and Edmund was eight, until their deaths about 60 years later.

This is a very dysfunctional family and how they lived and died never palled for me.

I did go back to the first chapter after I had finished the book as it is really the ending.

Picked up this afternoon at BX Meetup at the Art Gallery. A blustery day to enjoy coffee and conversation. Thanks Pinkozcat.

Addit Nov 07- Thoroughly enjoyed this historical murder mystery. The story telling from three perspectives is a solid and interesting angle. I would be interested in reading another book from this author.

Okay .... the release alert for this book came through, just as I was leaving the house today, so I decided to check it out. (I have never done anything like this before and it felt like I was on a secret mission ..... ) It was still there, so I picked it up and left something else in its place too keep the good karma going. I love books set back in time and this looks good so I look forward to reading it! :)

I enjoyed this! What a strange family! It was well told from the three different perspectives,... also the suspense kept me reading right up till the end. It was a good idea to go back to the beginning and read the first chapter again, pinkozcat! Thank you all for sharing this. I will release it soon.

Looks like a very good read; glad to be introduced to this writer.

For all the same reasons as you lot, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Also for the treatment of that kind of slavery it was being a servant in the rigid English class system of the time. Imagine employing someone now and expecting them never to have "followers", never to marry, to have that dogged devotion. Georgina's character and her power was so artfully done.
The feeling for the time period was so well done, too. Like you,Carole888, I love that period and was consciously weighing it up against Sarah Waters and other contemporaries who write of that time, and didn't find it wanting.
The one fault I found in it was the logical problem of being inside the heads, right at the end, of the three main protagonists. It wasn't as if they left diaries or some kind of solid evidence. However the getting there was intensely satisfying...not an everyday mystery, and one that came at the right time, whilst painting house and being in no mood for something unreadable!
I'm giving it to my husband to read and then if none of you have other plans for it I'll release it at TheSourceOBCZ here in Kangaroo Valley.
