Book Description
Eight Women on a Journey That Will Change Their Lives as Lovers, Wives, Mothers, Daughters, Friends

Just after midnight in a small town in Wisconsin, eight women begin walking together down a rural highway. Career women, housewives, mothers, divorcées, and one ex–prom queen, they are close friends who have been meeting every Thursday night for years, sharing food, wine, and their deepest secrets. But on this particular Thursday, Susan, Alice, Chris, Sandy, Gail, Mary, Joanne, and Janice decide to disappear from their own lives.

Their spontaneous pilgrimage attracts national attention and inspires other women from all across the country. As the miles fall away and the women forge ahead on their backroads odyssey—leaving small miracles in their wake—each of their histories unfolds, tales of shattered dreams and unexpected renewal, of thwarted love affairs and precious second chances. In luminous, heartwarming prose, Kris Radish deftly interweaves the women’s intimate confessions into the story of their brave, history-making walk.

I had to read this book slowly, what woman at some point hasn't had the urge to just walk out the door when there are so many demands on her time and to have a bunch of good friends to join you and explore women's lives, now that's a plus. The walking, the support they got and all the effect their walking had on others reading about their walk made their confessions universal. Our histories, our stories, our hopes, our female friendships are in some way or other woven together in this wonderful book. Thank you so much MyssCyn for sharing. I'll get this off on it's travels in a day or two.

Picked this little book up from my Post Office today, mailed from Halifax via Newfoundland - - thanks very much for passing this on. It will now spend some time in small-town Ontario, Canada! Hope to finish the book I'm currently reading by Dec. 31st so that 'The Elegant Gathering of White Snows' will be my first book of 2008. Looking forward to reading this one!

Finished reading this book tonight - sorry that it's taken me longer than anticipated, but I'm so glad I was included in this Ring and that I was able to read this book. A new author for me as well. Once I got into the story and the format of writing, I just wanted to keep reading. Insightful and compelling, on many levels. The stories of those who were affected by the walkers, as well as the stories of the walkers themselves, provides a great deal of food for thought and reflection into our own life journeys as women. Thanks for sharing this with all of us, MyssCyn. I'll be mailing this off in the coming week once I have kayjay33's address.

It's here at last.I am so eager to read this story. To have eight friends go "walkabout" should give us plenty of food for thought.
Thank you MyssCyn for including me and thank you Starrdust for including a little present of Post-it notes to stick on the outside of my wild releases.

This is a very thought provoking story. Each woman had her own life story to tell and her own problems to work through. I kept wishing that I had a large group of close friends like this. Such wonderful support they gave to each other. They not only changed their own lives but brought change to others who didn't even know them, but just knew of them.
I have the address for the next (and last) one on the list so will get the book in the mail very soon.

This has to be one of the best books I've read in quite a while. I think a lot of it probably had to do with where I am at in my life right now. The idea of the story is that a group of women just walk away from everything, their problems, spouses, households, and children. They discover the importance of friendships with other women and they embark on a journey self-discovery, remember dreams that they had, promises that they told themselves, and sorrows that they tried to forget. All these things color and shape the woman the way that she is today, both the good and the bad, but eventually these things need to be dealt with and either accepted or let go so that a person can move on with their life and within their skin. A couple of the parts of the book I had a tough time relating to but for the most part I really enjoyed it. I already have special 1165 address, so I will get off in the mail to her a little later on this week. Thanks for sharing this one with me trex3.
