The year was 1849 and the cry was "Gold Fever!" as the legendary caravan of men, women and children drove onward across the vast western wilderness. Their destination, San Francisco, California, their destinies as yet unknown.

It was a fierce daily struggle for survival. Leaving the protection of their covered wagons to camp out in make-shift shacks, the forty-niners were plauged by murder, thieves and Indian attacks.

Yet with pans in hand they staked their claims, oblivious to everything except their lust for a rich bonanza, shining golden nuggets fulfilling the great American dream.

On a whim, I searched the listings at AbeBooks for the keyword "bookcrossing", and found several listings that included "bookcrossing label" in the descriptions. (I don't mind seeing BC books in bookstores or for sale - that's part of a book's life cycle as far as I'm concerned. And in this case the BC info was preserved, so that's good too.) I decided to order a few of those books so I could re-release them, and this one arrived today. (Waves hi to Tribefan and Elizardbreath!)

I dipped into this one but didn't get caught up in the story, so I expect I'll pass it along unread.
