The book was an interesting combination of a historical study of Roman society focusing on women and gladiators and a narrative describing the possible life and death of a female gladiator unearthed in a London excavation.
It was very educational and the narrative added an interesting twist to the historical study; however the switching between the history and the narrative could be annoying. The narrative was also not really that well written but the study was excellent.
