Book Description
A classic title in Edna O'Brien's Country Girls Trilogy - the first volume.

Synopsis
It is the early 1960s in a country village in Ireland. Caithleen Brady and her attractive friend Baba are on the verge of womanhood and dreaming of spreading their wings in a wider world; of discovering love and luxury and liquor and above all, fun. With bawdy innocence, shrewd for all their inexperience, the girls romp their way through convent school to the bright lights of Dublin - where Caithleen finds that suave, idealised lovers rarely survive the real world.

Not sure the lounge is in a state for follow up picture:-) still not sorted out the pickle from having storage heaters put in..

I loved this book its detail and sincerity warm the cockles of your heart in true Irish fashion. you really enter the world of the heroine and her not so 'kind' friend and neighbour. The pair are the opposites of each other - one scholastic but unwordly - one bright but alledgedly thick or a school failure. Some might find the story cliched but it doesn't strike me that way. - it just feels all so believable. I can't wait to continue with this trilogy..in fact half way throught next one since last night :-) and then I can swiftly move on to the third also kindly sent me by Jackie xx

I will put this into PC for now until I finish the trilogy and hopefully work my way through more of O'Brien as I might want to refer to it - but it will be available for anyone to read if they want
to.

Thanks again Jacky x
