Read this for my local bookgroup- all of the group members found this book interesting and discussion worthy. A fast paced read- at times hard to read but an amazing story about the author's life and her resilence. Sending out as a bookray soon.

sending out today to MyaStone to start the ray- enjoy!
just arrived in the mail today. not sure why it took so long, but safe and sound. thanks for sharing!
This really was a great book, and I think it goes a lot deeper than ''girl lives a rough life and comes out successful''. The authors parents are clearly the most interesting characters. Some of their ideas are rather modern - anti consumerism, letting children learn by doing rather than rote teaching and homework - so its amazing that the children often end up neglected (the scene in which the authors sister gets glasses for the first time is heart-breaking). The whole family is so clearly smart and talented, its an amazing contrast to their surroundings (at one point the author looks up words in the dictionary while they are living in yet another poorly maintained house - but they have a dictionary). And most interestingly, the children end up with professions that their parents and wanted - artist, writer, and fighter of organized crime.
mailed to DeeohTea today.
