There was a book sale with thousands of titles, all new books, for irrestible prices. I seldom buy new books, but this was just too hard to stay away from. I feel like a hamster, scurrying home toppling over with a load of treasures. This is one of them.
"The man-eating predator in the jungles of history and the mind"
Predators. Top of the food chain in their ecosystem. They hunt, nothing hunts them, except man, although not all cultures curse the predators and desire to eliminate them. So how do they feel, the Romans about the bear, the Australian aboriginals about the saltwater crocodile, the Maldharis of India about the Indian lion, the Siberian about the tiger?
David Quammens books are without exception tremendously interesting, thought-provoking, and a joy for endless re-reading. There is no way I am going to part with this book.
