The author is a friend from high school, so some of her memories seem very intense to me in a personal way. A lot of the 1960's is in this book, of course: the over-excitement of adolescence in that super-charged moment, the self-centeredness, "the terrible arrogance of youth", the unwitting cruelty to others (even in the author's descriptions of teachers who were kind to her). She writes very well and makes the part of our growing up very real, sometimes uncomfortably so. It is an engaging book; I didn't give it a 10 only because of the tone of social and moral superiority in some of the narrative.
