Woohoo! Thank you so much yorkshire-lass, both for the book and picking me out of the hat! This arrived this morning and is one of those books which I've intended to read for some time - not quite sure why. Just because it's so well known I suppose. I look forward to reading it.
Oh, and thank you for the postcard and bookmark too. The villages look very pretty.

Virginia Woolf: could any woman love a semi-colon more? Those sentences really do glide for enormous distances across the page. *giggles*
Yes, her writing style is certainly different. As a lover of plot, I was probably never going to become her greatest fan as this book is more like a constant stream of consciousness than a regular story. It was interesting though, if a little depressing. The book follows the thoughts, feelings, observations and actions of a number of different characters in the run up to Mrs Dalloway's grand party. There is a lot of musing about life, love, and the purpose of it all.
Oh yes, and there's an awful lot of semi-colons ;-)
