Flash for Freedom!

from amazon:
When Flashman was inveigled into a game of pontoon with Disraeli and Lord George Bentinck, he was making an unconscious choice about his own future -- would it lie in the House of Commons or the West African slave trade? Was there, for that matter, very much difference? Once again Flashman's charm, cowardice, treachery, lechery and fleetness of foot see the lovable rogue triumph by the skin of his chattering teeth.

This book was very kindly brought along for me at the Swindon Uncovention.

I've never read Tom Brown's School Days, so am only familiar with the Flashman character from the Flashman books. I really enjoy these rogueish romps through history with their nudging and winking and all kinds of 'in' jokes. Footnotes usually annoy me in books but I actually look forward to them in this series.
This, the third book in the series, explores the slave trade from the wealthy financial backers in England to the African people selling each other into slavery with stops on the underground railway and a cameo by Lincoln.
Looking forward to Harry Flashman's next adventure
