This book was so popular when I posted 2 copies last week that I went out to get two more copies to keep up with demand. They are both promised to fellow bookcrossers and I'll note their whereabouts in seperate journal entries. Hopefully all 4 copies will be enjoyed and back in circulation soon!!
Here is my original entry for this book:

This book is too much fun to be believed.Imagine an alternate Britain 1985, a police state where literature is revered to such an extent that taking too many liberties with Shakespeare is a jailable offense.
Meet Special Operative Thursday Next from the Literary Detective Division, perhaps the only person who can save Jane Eyre (yes, that Jane Eyre) from a murdering maniac. Jasper Fforde expertly crafts a story in which we actually believe this is possible.
This is silly, exciting fun. The second book is already out in the UK and will be released in March here in the U.S. I can't wait!

Journal Entry 3 by O-Jenny from Temple, Texas USA on Tuesday, February 18, 2003
Just received today. I'm looking forward to reading this book! Will post a review and release the book when I've finished it.

Journal Entry 4 by O-Jenny from Temple, Texas USA on Wednesday, February 26, 2003
Finished this one last night. It's a terrific premise for a novel, and it's pretty well executed for a first-time novelist. My favorite part of the book was the "Rocky-Horroring" of Shakespeare's Richard III.

I'm sending this one to jmg49 later this week. (We're still iced in here in Texas.)

Journal Entry 5 by jmg49 from Woodstock, Ontario Canada on Monday, March 10, 2003

Journal Entry 7 by jmg49 from Woodstock, Ontario Canada on Saturday, March 29, 2003
This was a very fun book to read. It has a unique premise and good plot. I loved some of the oddball characters and character names.
I'm looking forward to reading Fforde's next book.

And.......the book has arrived back in Washington! I read a couple of pages and it does look intriguing. Thanks, jmg49!

Journal Entry 10 by alsomama from Seattle, Washington USA on Sunday, April 27, 2003
What a hoot! I got such a kick out of this book. Thursday Next is Stephanie Plum's more literate English cousin. Like JennyO I thought that the performance of Richard III a la Rocky Horror was laugh-out-loud funny. The names were amusing--"Braxton Hicks" got my vote for funniest. I'm letting my husband read this before I send it on.

This book is particularly appropriate for those of us who enjoy books. I found it highly entertaining. It reminds me of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. My wife is sending this book to CBCD tomorrow.

Journal Entry 12 by CBCD from Shepherdstown, West Virginia USA on Tuesday, May 13, 2003
I'm so pleased that alsomama sent this book to me. Several times I have looked at The Eyre Affair in a bookstore, read the first few lines, and wished I felt flush enough to buy it. Oooh baby! Now I have it here before me! It looks right up my alley. Thanks again to alsomama.

Released on Friday, September 05, 2003 at Postal Release in Portland, Oregon USA.

I'm not usually a fantasy fan, but this was an enjoyable book. I remember reading, as a child, my mother's well-loved copy of Jane Eyre, which I now plan on re-reading someday. A second read of The Eyre Affair after that would be fun too! Mailed this off to Eskielover today in Washington.

Journal Entry 18 by Eskielover from Olympia, Washington USA on Monday, September 8, 2003
The book arrived in the mail today. I'm reading another book right now, but this one goes to the top of my TBR pile.

Journal Entry 19 by Eskielover from Olympia, Washington USA on Thursday, September 18, 2003
A fun book to read. Makes me want to dig out my copy of Jane Eyre and reread it, but it will be awhile because I have too many books on my TBR pile as it is. I'll try to get this in the mail to sugarkane tomorrow.

Journal Entry 20 by Eskielover from Olympia, Washington USA on Friday, September 19, 2003
This book sent to sugarkane today.

This just arrived yesterday in the mail. Thanks, Eskielover! I will read and journal ASAP.

What a romp! If all fantasy novels were like this, I'd read fantasy a lot more often. I wasn't sure about Thursday's character and her fictional world at first (and Jasper Fforde's writing starts out a little wobbly), but I warmed up to her as soon as she arrived in Swindon. The details (Pickwick the pet dodo, the People's Republic of Wales, Mr. Quaverley)? Wacky! Acheron Hades the archvillain is simultaneously funny and very, very scary. As a bonus, this book got me to read Jane Eyre for the first time, and I loved it.

I hope everyone else on the list will enjoy this book as much as I did. I can't wait to read the next adventure.

Journal Entry 23 by dragonfly4 on Wednesday, October 22, 2003
I received the book today and can't wait to start. Jane Eyre is one of my favourite books so I'm curious to see how she comes across in this book. I'm about 3/4 of the way through another bookring and then I'll start this one.

Journal Entry 24 by dragonfly4 on Saturday, November 22, 2003
I sent to book off today to tho in Portugal.

Going by the title of the book, I thought it would be much more about Jane Eyre. She really isn't introduced until near the end of the book. So that disappointed me a bit. That being said, I still enjoyed the book once I got into Thursday's world. The character's are so vivid and I love their names (Liz Barrett-Browning, Commander Braxton Hicks). It's an interesting combinaiton of our world and hers. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Just received it - have heard so much about this book ... some of my BC friends loved it, others hated it .. I hope to post my own opinion sometime soon :-)

Journal Entry 26 by tho on Saturday, January 31, 2004
OK, now I can see what all the fuss was about ... Although this is definitely a very original and imaginative book, I have to say that I couldn't get into it at all. The storyline just got too confusing at times, and some scenes were a bit too ridiculous. But I did love the idea of being able to do some tourism inside books, like Mrs. Nakijima :-) And I quite enjoyed the discussions about Shakespeare ...
But when I finished it, I didn't feel that need to rush out and get the next book which really means I didn't enjoy it as much... (which is just as well, since my TBR list is getting so long these days :-)

The bookray will continue its journey and will be mailed to loopy1 this week.

Journal Entry 27 by loopy1 from Herne Bay, Kent United Kingdom on Monday, February 9, 2004
The book arrived safely in a rather chilly Kent, England this morning - I've been particularly looking forward to this one, so will read it and post my thoughts once I've finished. Thanks to everyone before me :-)

Journal Entry 28 by loopy1 from Herne Bay, Kent United Kingdom on Monday, February 23, 2004
DH took this book from the TBR pile for a couple of days and really took a dislike to it, which I found off-putting at first, but then I really got into it. Like others, I loved the Richard III scenes! I also had to drag out my copy of Jane Eyre and check the ending when it was first mentioned in this book.
I found this a very enjoyable book, with a very clever, satisfying ending. I'm off to find out who was offering the next two books on rays, and will post this one off once I get an address. Thanks for the chance to read this book :-)

Journal Entry 29 by LaPeste from Le Cellier, Pays de la Loire France on Friday, February 27, 2004

The bookmark says : "take time to read a little bit each day !" I'll do my best !

Journal Entry 32 by bilbi from Chambéry, Rhône-Alpes France on Wednesday, July 28, 2004
This book's a real delight to read ! So hilarious ! Who would think that Thursday Next's a war veteran ? All the characters are so weird : her dad's lost in time, her pet's a dodo, her friend's a fiction character, and so on... And what about bookworms ?!? :DD
