Awards and honors for it listed on the back:
-A Boston-Globe Horn Book Honor Book
-An American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults
-An American Library Association Notable Book for Chidren
-Winner of the Regina Medal
-Booklist Editors' Choice
-A School Library Journal Best Book of the Year
-John Newbery Medal Winner for "Most Distinguished Contribution to American Literature For Children"
I think that all of the awards it has received are well deserved. It was a wonderful story with an obvious message about how life is filled with good and bad, beauty and sorrow. Usually a book with an obvious moral to the story is preachy and in your face, but this one was not like that. It is a wonderful tale, and I enjoyed reading it.
