Take one of the weirdest schools in the (quite weird as it is) English system, populate with a few very distinct characters and finally play a prank that goes completely haywire; what do you get? The kind of story that only Tom Sharpe could pull off (or, in fact, dream of writing).
The story is all about Peregrine, a boy who takes everything literally (and it's surprising how much trouble that gives his surroundings!) and Mr. Glodstone, a teacher who glories in adventure-novels, but doesn't seem to grasp the idea of fiction. When another teacher decides to play a prank on them and pretend that some Countess needs rescuing from evil guys, these guys go on a very misguided crusade through France.
The luck of the draw would make the Countess's castle the setting for a top-level symposium between various political philisophies, which makes matters very complicated very quickly!
Trust Tom Sharpe to cram as many plot twists as possible into the quite small space left in between all the jokes he makes, and you'll have a book that splits your sides while making your head swim. If only with incomprehension about the utter thickness of some people...

Well would you believe it, the man almost released this book without giving me a chance to read it. Just finished my first Sharped, it was fun, looking forward to this one.
Fun!
