I've seen the movie many times, but this is the first time I've read the original novel, so I wasn't really sure what to expect from this book. Sometimes, just as a great book can be turned into a mediocre movie, a great movie turns out to be based on a mediocre book. But luckily, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest doesn't fall into that category. The book is very different from the movie, but in a good way, going a lot further into the backgrounds and inner feelings of the characters in the way that a movie can't, making for a much more interesting story, if not as heart-tugging as the film.

I couldn't help, though, hearing and seeing the main characters as the actors that portrayed them. That wasn't really a problem most of the time, except when it came to RP McMurphy. In the novel he's got red hair, so every time there was a mention of his hair I had an incongruous mental image of a ginger Jack Nicholson - not a good look ;-)

Angela brought this back to a meetup, as she's going back to the UK and needed to have a clean-out of books. So I said I'd re-release it somewhere for her.
