Memoirs of a Geisha

An interesting and in-depth look at the life of a Geisha in Japan starting in the 1930's and continuing through WWII and into the 1950's. It is amazing that this fictional account was written by a man, he had to have done a great deal of research to come across so believably. The book was quite long and drug a bit in parts, but overall I found it fascinating.

I've finally started this novel! I'm really looking forward to it, and I'll post another entry when I'm done. Thanks!
What a fantastic novel! Nitta Sayuri was an amazing storyteller. I found the first 40 pages or so slow going, until she finds herself in Gion, when I could hardly keep up. (I must admit that for the first half of the book, it was difficult to keep straight all the names of the various people.) Her struggles and her achievements were up and down like a roller coaster. I was disappointed when it ended, as it seemed like there could have been something more to say, although I think that's just because I didn't want to have to put it down, not because there truly was more for her to tell us. Even more curious is the fact that I know nothing of geisha or Japanese culture and had no particular desire to learn--this book just had me hooked.
