I read this awhile ago, just before reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. While somewhat similar, The Lovely Bones outshines this book, but upon looking back, I realized that A Gracious Plenty had a lot to say for itself as well. The writing is lovely, taking you to a faraway place, then bringing you back to reality, quite abrubtly. It's hard not to feel sorry for the main character, Finch, as she's so lonely without her ghostly friends, but she's noble and good, so in a way that you hope you would do in real life, you tend to forget she's supposed to be burned and disfigured and picture her just as someone trying to live her life as best she can, and learn from past mistakes.
