What an outstanding book! It gave me a deeper understanding of Arab culture and about redemption.

From ReadingGroupGuides.com:

The Kite Runner
by Khaled Hosseini

An epic tale of fathers and sons, of friendship and betrayal, that takes us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the atrocities of the present.

The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father's servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption, and it is also about the power of fathers over sons-their love, their sacrifices, their lies.

Wow. I stayed up until 2am last night finishing this book. I absolutely could not put it down from the minute I first picked it up. I don't normally relate so well to male protagonists...but this story is amazingly touching in so many ways. It can be a little hard to read at times, as far as how emotional it can be, but you gotta push through because it is worth it. I will now carry the quotation "For you, a thousand times over!" with me forever.

What an amazing, tragic, wonderful story. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Now I want to read Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns. I'm hooked on this author. Thanks for making me a part of this ring! I'll get this off to YowlYY ASAP.

I loved this book! Like most of the fiction I read, I really get involved with the protagonists, and this one particularly got to me. It is the first work of fiction set in Afghanistan I read, after having enjoyed "The Places In Between" by Rory Stewart on his journey through this wounded country, and was curious to see why so many people had been so enthusiastic about it. Easy to say...the story is a very touching one, and although I agree with the comments on things fitting into place too easily in the book, it is also true that the author has a lovely, poetic way to describe and this made reading the novel so much enjoyable. Somehow, there's something about the Middle Eastern writers and their way of writing that I find particularly enjoyable...

Thanks to KatieLindsay for sharing this book... I will be looking for a hardback copy for me to keep in my personal collection, and since I have already AmberMoon's details, I will post this book off to Scotland today.

Thanks also to all who participated to this ring, and happy autumn reading :)

This was a very engrossing story. The narrative was superb and the plot very intriguing. I will definitely read Hosseini's other novel now.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and have recommended it to everyone I know who loves to read. Am going to post it to a book loving friend in Ireland tomorrow to get her new year off to a literary good start. I bought A Thousand Splendid Suns the day I finished the Kite Runner and enjoyed it even more if that's possible.
