Inspector Lynley and his partner, Havers, are called to a public school because a 13 year old boy went missing. Shortly afterwards he is found dead. As Lynley and Havers try to uncover the murder, they stumble upon a lot of secrets various people, including teachers, other employees, school governors and the pupils themselves try to cover up and hide from revelation.
Like the previous two books in the Inspector Lynley series this one was full of twists and turns, full of psychological insight into people''s minds and thoughts.
It was wonderful. I really liked it.

I liked this one more than the previous one (Payment in blood). The setting, a birtish public school, was fascinating. Only one thing really jarred me: a character's father, a plastic surgeon, is said to spend his holidays time doing charity work in Barcelona on victims of accidents, burnt people, people with cleft palates... What the author seems to ignore is that we have a public health care system here in Spain which guarantees that all those people she mentions have free access to surgery. There'd be little need for a british surgeon to come do charity work here. Maybe she mistook Spain with other hispanic countries in South America, as many of her countrymates do.
