Great book. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Review from publisher:From Publishers Weekly
Newly married California museum curator Benni Harper travels to Kansas to meet her in-laws in this third of Fowler's quilt-pattern series (after Irish Chain). Police chief Gabe Ortiz, her husband, assures her that everyone in his small hometown will love her, but Benni, whose father, eccentric Aunt Dove and Uncle Arnie are driving from California to be with them, isn't so sure. At a party given by Gabe's sister, she introduces herself to Tyler Brown, whose quilt on the sister's living room wall she admires. Tyler, who says she left her Amish family a year ago to pursue a singing career, is visibly upset and says she's being harassed. Later that evening, Tyler's body is found, her head bashed in, leaving Gabe's childhood friends suspects in the murder. With the help of her sister-in-law, Benni attempts to identify the killer and, in the process, learns more about the pasts of her husband and his friends than she's sure she wants to know. Complicating matters further and adding comic relief to this grim tale are periodic calls from her family as they work their way across the country. "

I enjoyed this third book in Earlene Fowler's series today here in Baltimore, Maryland. The change of scenery was welcome and I enjoyed learning about Gabe's past, but there were too many characters in this one. Also, plenty of romance to go around...not my favorite parts of the book, but Fowler does it well. I think Gabe came off incredibly badly in this book than in the last one - I hope I start liking his character better in the 4th one, which I am about to start; when that one's finished I'll mail the two to iliotropio.

Thanks again craftykat!

I really enjoy this series. In this one, Gabe & Benni have recently married and Benni is on her way to spend a fortnight in Gabe's home town and to meet his family & friends. Then a friend of Benni's sister in law is murdered, Benni of course can not resist......

Now on its way to Portugal - enjoy!

I have finished reading this in a while, but just now I realized I haven't done a JE yet. This is a great book, and I love that we get to meet Gabe's roots and his hometown. This series is really amazing and a treat for mystery lovers.

Fowler approaches the difficulty of where to set the new book in a series without it getting stale by moving the action to Benni's other half Gabe's home town, family and friends. This allows us to explore Benni's reaction to a new environment, a new cast of characters (while keeping some older ones in the picture through a hilarious family road-trip) and her evolving relationship with Gabe, as well as a new murder and the issues around old and newer friendships. Good stuff.

FAO Craftykat, can you send me your address please (PM or my email on my profile) so I can get these first three on their way back to you...

FAI Silvia-PCO, if you've finished any more of these I can take them on now!

Back from it's travels around the world and look sjust as good as new. I hope it has brought reading pleasure to all who read it. I know most of you enjoyed the cow postcards. I especially liked the website of European cows. Who knew cows could look so different? I learn so much from reading.
