Deeply moving and profound, this is the story of Celie who is raped by the man she calls Father. Her two children are taken away from her and she is forced into an ugly marriage. She has no-one to talk to except God.

Then she meets Shug Avery, the singer, the magic woman, with whome she discovers not the pain of rivalry but the love and support of women.

One of the best novels I've ever read. This is a second copy for BookCrossing purposes.

I agree with TF - this is one of the best novels I've read. It took me through all kinds of emotions - from anger that people can treat one another so badly, to hate for the people that hurt Celie, to feelings of pride for how well her children turned out and then happiness. I'm so pleased I read this.
