Author of wicked
Wow, am I chuffed to have found this book on the shelf when I went to drop off some others!! I'm almost done reading "Wicked" and planned to go hunting for "Confessions..." when I'm done. Now I dont have to :)
McGuire seems unable to simply entertain; he wrestles with philosophical issues in pretty much everything I've read of his. This book tries to answer the question: 'What is the use of beauty?' The answer, as in the other books, is not evident. That having been said, I enjoyed this book far more than Wicked. The subject is droll, but at least he hasn't handicapped himself by sticking too closely to some other story. Cinderella supplies only the inspiration, not the framework, for this tale, which leaves McGuire to develop the characters as he sees fit. Overall, not a bad read. Now the better half will read it and tell you where my review went wrong ...
