It's a book I first read a few years ago. Aimed for a younger audience, it's a quick but interesting read. About a boy named Jonas, who lives in a Utopian society. When his place in the community is chosen at age 12, he is the new Giver in training. He is one of only two people who know and understand the truth about his world, and questions it and thinks beyond.

found it at vision video a while ago... showed a friend a few days ago who then told me what i was supposed to do. it was an interesting book, kind of weird to fall into my hands... i really like this site
