The first book in a fantastic series by Diana Gabaldon. I fell in love with the series and its characters years ago and find the books to be ones I cannot put down once I've started them. The first two books are my favorites, though.
Claire Randall, a nurse, stumbles upon an outcropping of standing stones. Suddenly she finds that she has traveled back in time from 1945 to 1743. She is caught the Highlands of Scotland during the Jacobite era as an Outlander!
Finding herself in the midst of unrest, she does what she can to survive which includes becoming close to a one James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser... who is gorgeous and sweet, tough and mysterious.
Can she work out her place there? Can she figure out how to get home to her husband? Can she even decide what she truly wants?
Sent as an RABCK for my Tartan Day 2007 Challenge!
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did :-)
Thanks so much for this, KateKintail! I've been wanting to try this series out for a while, so I'm really excited about getting this book :)

This book has safely arrived at my house today. Thanks for trading snufkin81!
<- neat stamps and beautiful postcard with the book. There are different thoughts going through my mind when I look at the postcard: 1) yep, you sure need to floss some more or 2) have you seen my little sister? or 3) a breathmint is in order ;-)

Finished reading this book this morning. I enjoyed it a lot! I'm not sure weather I will read more of this series because I might not find the books easily. But if I come upon part 2 I surely will be tempted :-D
So glad I decided to read the book before viewing the series on Netflix.
Offered the book to another Dutch bookcrosser who has the book on her wishlist...

Many, many thanks to dutchflybabe, because she took this book with her, even when it was a really late night request for this book. I'm sure I will enjoy this one.

At first I liked the book, then I went out to check other reviews. And there were a few negative ones to which I didn't neccesarily agree, but they influenced me nevertheless. Tried to shake it off. Halfway across the book I was getting a bit sick and tired of all the sex. Luckily enough drama ensued. Somewhere at the end there was this part that I really liked and then at the end the sex started again.
But the story itself I liked a lot and that's why I give it 3,5 stars (out of five), and since that is not an option here (on GR), I will give it 4 stars, because I'm nice like that.
I will now check out the television series.
