Found it on the way to the bus stop and couldn't leave it out in the cold and wet. Just where the release alerts said it would be.

I saw the film but found it rather random and weird. Maybe i'll like the book better.

31st March Update:

In some ways the film was better than the book. At least in the film you got to see the story from other characters' perspectives. Didn't care for the style of writing, learning the story from a 4 year old's point of view is a bit boring and mostly confusing and at times scary. I'm glad i had a much stabler childhood.

Going to the 1001-library soon.

Sending to Supertalya :)

Journal Entry 6 by Supertalya on Thursday, September 04, 2008
I just received this in the post. I have a few bookrings ahead of it, but should get to it soon.

Update: I don't know how I feel about the book. I don't think I liked the point of view being from the daughter. I wanted to know more from the mother's point of view and since the daughter, well, was a child, she seemed to have the child-like point of view about life and what was going on her life. I wonder if that is what made it a 1001 book. I am interested in seeing the movie now.

This book arrived in the mail today. I just started another book on the train on the way home from work, but as soon as I finish, this is next up!

Thanks for sending this on to me!

Journal Entry 9 by ChiBoiler from Chicago, Illinois USA on Wednesday, October 08, 2008
I enjoyed this book, but it was definitely simplistic. I think that the mom was really messed up and I liked the way that the story was told from the point of view of a child. You got glimpses of the mother, but the little girl did not really understand what was going on around her. I hope they end up having a happier ending, but somehow - I doubt it...

Thanks, ythan for starting this ray! I have the address of the next reader and hope to get this book in the mail tomorrow.

I received the book in the mail a couple days ago. Inkognitoh told me recently she likes to know how someone felt the day she received the book, so I will relate to you that I felt stressed! It was the last day of the school quarter, and grades were due.

I plan to start reading Hideous Kinky very soon. Thanks for sharing this book ray!

I tried reading Hideous Kinky, but I couldn't get into it. Just goes to show that one person's 1001 Must Reads are another reader's Can Live Withouts!

Withoutwings asked to be skipped, so I mailed this book to UnwrittenLibra. He and I, incidentally, are swapping bookrays because he's mailing me Boy in Striped Pyjamas. I enjoy the English spelling of "pyjamas" better than the American "pajamas."

Arrived safe and sound here in Ohio. It rained books here last month and I have nine other rings/rays ahead of this one. But I will abide by the wishes of the ring and have it on its way in the next 6 weeks. Thanks unwrittenlibra for sending this to me and thanks to Ythan for including me in this ring.

Journal Entry 17 by sunfi from Alexandria, Virginia USA on Tuesday, April 28, 2009
Just finished this one, what a great tapestry the author wove. Between the colors and the scenery I was truly transported. I did find it tough to keep track of some of the characters though and determine how they were all related and tied to one another. Thanks for sharing, I'll have this on its way to the next reader later today.

I really enjoyed this book and didn't find it difficult to follow, though I read it in a short period of time. I liked that the story was told from the perspective of the youngest girl, and found that after a certain point I couldn't put it down because I had such a feeling of foreboding about what might happen to the girls as a result of their mother's self-absorption and neglect. At the very least, it made me feel better about my own parenting skills!

The book was mailed off to jellyfish67 today, so hopefully we will be hearing from it again soon!
