Wow! This is one of the best horror novels I've read in a LONG time. I was hooked from page one and couldn't put the book down. This was an awesome ride, and I look forward to the next novel by this promising young author.
Trade hardcover (bookclub edition), 376 pages

From the dust jacket:

Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre: a cookbook for cannibals...a used hangman's noose...a snuff film. An aging death-metal rock god, his taste for the unnatural is as widely known to his legions of fans as the notorious excesses of his youth. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, an item for sale on the Internet, a thing so terribly strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet.
I will "sell" my stepfather's ghost
to the highest bidder...

For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. He isn't afraid. He has spent a lifetime coping with ghosts—of an abusive father, of the lovers he callously abandoned, of the bandmates he betrayed. What's one more?

But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost, no benign conversation piece. It's the real thing.

And suddenly the suit's previous owner is everywhere: behind the bedroom door...seated in Jude's restored vintage Mustang...standing outside his window...staring out from his widescreen TV. Waiting—with a gleaming razor blade on a chain dangling from one bony hand...

A multiple-award winner for his short fiction, author Joe Hill immediately vaults into the top echelon of dark fantasies with a blood-chilling roller-coaster ride of a novel, a masterwork brimmming with relentless thrills and acid terror.

An awesomely creepy read. I loved this one. Sending this out Tues the 27th to fellow BookCrosser DVG. Hope she enjoys it as much as I, and everyone else it appears, did.

In the midst of a snowstorm, this wonderful book arrived safely today!

After all the forum posts and reading all the JEs, I am excited about reading this book. It has been a while since I have read a book from the horror genre and I can't wait to be scared! ;) I will read it shortly and probably share it with hubby.

Thank you so much redhot-brat for sharing this with me. I promise to share the joy of RABCKing it with another BCer!

Since the dust jacket was missing, I will print out a book description to put inside the book for future readers who may discover it should it be wild released.

I finally got to read this book - hubby spotted it and read it first! So my comments are those from the two of us combined since we both felt the same way about it.

I haven't read a horror book this good in a very long time. WOW.

This was an awesome book with a plot that really kept you wanting to turn the page. I swear I never wanted to put it down and finished it within two sittings. This is well written and an exciting story with many unexpected twists. The ending surprised me in several ways. Gotta love that! But I'm not going to give away the plot. Its a must read!

I am adding this author to my list of favorites right now! I can't wait to find another by this author.

I spotted on a wishlist and PMing mammajamma for mailing addy now!

What a nice surprise in the mail today, all the way from New Jersey to New Mexico! Thanks, dvg, I'm really looking forward to reading a book that has had so many good reviews. The hand-made bookmark and the tea bag were both nice touches. This isn't something you'd know, but I *love* licorice. :-) Thanks again!

dvg saw "Heart Shaped Box" by Joe Hill on my Wish List and very kindly offered it to me. It's been a *long* time since I've enjoyed a horror novel, much less actually been scared by one. This one did it! This is one of those books that I didn't want to put down, but had to in order to make it last longer. The images that Hill put into my mind stayed with me long after I closed the book. I'm a sucker for dogs as an integral part of the plot so this book fed that hunger as well.

Thanks again dvg! I appreciate your kindness in offering and sending this to me.
