Synopsis
What would you do for the friend who broke your heart? Best friends Kamryn Matika and Adele Brannon thought nothing could come between them - until Adele did the unthinkable and slept with Kamryn's fiance, Nate. Worse still, she got pregnant and had his child. When Kamryn discovered the truth about their betrayal she vowed never to see any of them again. Two years later, Kamryn receives a letter from Adele asking her to visit her in hospital. Adele is dying and begs Kamryn to adopt her daughter, Tegan. With a great job and a hectic social life, the last thing Kamryn needs is a five year old to disrupt things. Especially not one who reminds her of Nate. But with no one else to take care of Tegan and Adele fading fast, does she have any other choice? So begins a difficult journey that leads Kamryn towards forgiveness, love, responsibility and, ultimately, a better understanding of herself.

aah, good chicklit... a very rare thing. I really enjoyed this! I devoured it in a couple of days because I was keen to see how it ended. (I must admit I couldn't stand the suspense. I read the end when I was only three-quarters of the way through the novel. I have no will power!)

It was all a bit melodramatic though. The novel had it all... adultery, terminal illness, child abuse, broken families. So many broken relationships in one group of people.

I know Alectoness IRL so maybe I'll just pass it on next time I see her. (Yay for new friends. Isn't BookCrossing wonderful!)

Picked this up from fushmush tonight, prior to the screening of "Bridge to Terabithia" (thanks for bringing it along... I just notice now that it has the ingredients for a pasta dish on a post-it note stuck to the front - let me know if you want these, and I'll transcribe them to an email!)

I've got one other bookring book to read before I start on this, but I should get to it very soon.

Journal Entry 11 by Alectoness from Geelong, Victoria Australia on Monday, May 14, 2007
While this was an easy read and while it did make me laugh and cry, I have to agree with fushmush about it being a bit melodramatic in parts. I just felt so sorry for all the characters, that so many bad things had happened to pretty much all of them.

I've got scotsbookie's address, so this will be in the mail later today.

Sometimes a bit of good chiclit is what you want & this is it. As has been mentioned it's a tad melodramatic at times, if anything can happen to the characters it will!

Thank you beckydore for the chance to read the book. I've PM'd you re the next reader as there is no one of that name on the database.

received as part of a bookring

RELEASE NOTES:

I am so glad I decided to join the bookring for this book. I don't usually enjoy this kind of novel but for some reason I had to keep on reading. The narrator made me want to slap her occasionally but that just shows that the writing was believable. I did find the precociousness of the little girl a bit far fetched but that didn't detract from the pace of the story or the story itself. I know I haven't given much detail about the story and that is deliberate. Read this book if you like fiction with a romantic theme that isn't pale pink and wishy-washy.

This book is fustrating from the first papragraph yes you do get sucked into the story but only because of the little girl. You find out by chapter 10 that the woman who is telling the story is black ok yep thats fine i dont mind but all i got coming through the whole story was its difficult for me to get a job because i'm black, its gonna be difficult for me to adopt a child because i'm black. Then to add insult to injury all the narrator seems to think about is which man in her life she wants to sleep with next which would so not happen if you had a small child you would be more worried what was gonna hurt your child in the long run
very frustrated with this book and its see through plot, i wanted to shake the narrator to shake all the soppyness and sap that she seemed to want to write about.
Not my kind of book and worse than CHICK LIT
