The Dice Man

THIS BOOK CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
IF YOU DARE TO TRY IT.
The rules are all around you. The rules that stop you seducing your neighbour downstairs, that stop you hitting your boss, that stop you leaving your family and leaving the country. The rules that stop you living.
The dice don't do rules; the dice do life.
Luke Rhinehartis a psychiatrist, a husband and a father, his life locked down by routine and order - until he picks up the dice. The dice govern his every decision and each throw takes him further into a world of risk, discovery and freedom. As the cult of the dice grows around him the old order fades: chance becomes his religion, the dice his god.
If you haven't lived the life of the dice, you haven't lived at all.
Let the dice decide. And roll with it.

Passing to jugofalejay as I know he enjoyed this book. I have another copy and he can bookcross this one, or use it in the next book swap as he'll be too busy moving house to sort through his books in time for the next Salcey Forest meet-up! We'll see where it ends up....

Fantastic book. I can see why it has become a cult classic; a great book for philosophists and people who perhaps need to think about their life and how we all pass through it; perhaps people approaching a mid-life crisis or having one should read it!
The above comments sound a little serious, but the book can be viewed in two different ways - as a piece of fiction, or as an autobiographical account of one man's new approach to life; and depending on how you view the story it has to tell, it could be merely interesting or life changing! Certainly has made me review my life and has made me subtly change some of my decisions.
It is a must-read book - paul.

I am now reading this book - I am not too keen on the constant references to 'rape' - but it is ok. I have also managed to request the sequel 'The Search for the Dice Man' through book mooch.

I wasn't very keen on this book - all seemed a bit depraved to me and Luke was someone who just didn't want to grow up. I will not be living my life by the die.
Hubby read this book too and enjoyed it more than me. Now ready to pass on. Might leave it at a local bookshelf.
